Can windows be washed in a Montana winter?

Inside, yes, all year. Outside, it depends on the thermometer and on whether water will freeze on the glass.

Inside: any time

Winter is a good time for the inside of the glass. The low sun shows every smear, the holidays bring people over, and none of it depends on the weather. We clean interiors all year.

Outside: it comes down to freezing

Water that freezes on the glass before it can be wiped off leaves streaks and ice, and ladders on snow or ice are how people get hurt. In Bozeman’s coldest months that narrows the choice to the warmer afternoons: the average high at the Montana State University station is about 33°F in December and 34°F in January, and there is usually snow on the ground most of those months.

Plenty of homes simply wait for spring for the outside. If you want it done in winter, a mild spell is the window, and it is worth asking to be called when one comes.

Storefronts

Street-level glass picks up road spray and salt all winter, and it is the first thing a customer sees. Storefronts are usually kept on their schedule through the season, weather permitting.
